Salad Plates

8" Porcelain Salad & Side Plates, Sets of 4

Salad plates are the most useful plate in a cupboard and the least thought about. At 8 inches they handle salads, sides, desserts, appetizers and breakfast — and they are what makes a layered place setting look considered rather than plain.

Ours come in sets of 4 (a few in 2s) in glossy porcelain: hand-painted watercolor florals, blue-and-white chinoiserie, sculpted and pleated rims, and clean neutrals that pair with everything.

What size is a salad plate?

Standard salad plates run 7.5–8.5 inches. Ours are 8 inches — large enough for a real portion, small enough to layer cleanly on a 10" dinner plate without crowding the rim. Dessert plates and appetizer plates are typically the same size and used interchangeably.

How to layer a place setting

The classic stack is charger, then dinner plate, then salad plate on top. The easiest upgrade: keep the dinner plate plain and make the salad plate the patterned one. A neutral dinner plate under a floral salad plate reads far more deliberate than matching both — and it costs less than buying two patterned sets.

Most of these coordinate with a matching dinner plate in the same family, so you can build a full setting over time. See the full dinnerware sets if you would rather start with everything at once.

Care

All porcelain and dishwasher safe. Every set here is microwave safe except the Tuscany Gilded set, whose gold-plated rim is real metal and will arc.
