Mix heights for a collected look: a taller statement vase as the anchor, two or three bud vases stepped down beside it. Add taper candle holders between them and the centerpiece is finished.

How tall should a centerpiece vase be?

The rule that matters: keep it under about 12 inches, or go well above 24. Anything in between sits exactly at eye level and blocks conversation across the table. Most of the vases here are deliberately low-and-wide or small-and-groupable for that reason.

Styling a centerpiece that works

Odd numbers read better than even. Three vases of varying height beat two matched ones. If you are working with a long table, repeat a small grouping every few place settings rather than building one large arrangement in the middle — it fills the length and keeps every seat with something to look at.
